“Definitely weird!” They are not our words. They are ON’s own words. With the Cloudmonster, ON is doing something completely different. The monstrous, maximum cushioning sole of this running shoe is not immediately ON’s trademark. Or rather, “was” not immediately their trademark. Because both at ON, and at Runners’ lab, they are very firm believers in this new approach.
Slightly extravagant sole lets you walk on clouds
The sole may be called a tad extravagant. And that’s not to make the shoe look nice. No, the “clouds” are larger than ever so that you would experience maximum cushioning. The distinctive CloudTec® technology in this air cushion accomplishes three tasks. First, it provides more horizontal and vertical cushioning. The landing? That one is never going to feel so soft. And then there is the offset. The large clouds conserve a maximum amount of energy and use this energy at every outlet. In practice, this means that you are pushed to move forward. Who says no to that?
Shoot forward like a slingshot
We already mentioned the monstrous cushioning. Is there anything else that makes the sole spectacular? Yes. The presence of the Speedboard® with its gross Rocker and Helion™ Foam. The Speedboard® is found just above the CloudTec® technology. This adds to the catapult effect of the shoe. The Rocker is felt immediately upon unrolling the foot. The smoothness itself. And then there’s the Helion™ Foam. The material is known for its softness, lightness, durability and rebound effect. These three applications transform the ON Cloudmonster into a beastly comfortable running shoe.
Fun to put your foot in
Comfort, by the way, is carried through to the upper. You’ll happily slip your foot into the soft inner lining. By the way, the upper is made up of a significant amount of recycled material. Can only be applauded.

Cloudmonster passes first test of Runners’ lab customers
35 Enthusiastic customers of Runners’ lab seized the opportunity at the launch of this brand new running shoe to test it out immediately during a playful running event: the On Monsterchase. After the monster was grabbed, we naturally wanted to know what their findings about the shoe were. A response.
“Super pleasant. It seemed a little bombastic to me when I first saw it, but the shoe really does the job. It feels soft and I experienced exactly what they said about the energetic offset. During this event, I was able to test the Cloudmonster at different paces. It is made for long distances, but I found it to really stand out on the faster work as well. By the way, when I tied the laces, I was a little worried that the fit wouldn’t be tight enough, but that turned out to be no problem at all.”
There is a wisdom that goes, “one is none.” So for the reliability of this article, we’ll let one more two tester do the talking. “A pleasant shoe to put on. Especially since its fit is so thin, but at the same time roomy and sturdy. It is relatively light for a shoe for longer distances and features soft cushioning. Still, the shoe is very responsive. It made a surprisingly smooth roll off possible. If you ask me, it’s a good shoe for both slow (recovery) runs and smoother endurance runs.”
